The Panda Nut
Nutty about Pandas Infected by Panda virus and OPD
Ruby got 'done' today. The oil was REALLY nasty. A cause of concern. Absolutely black with teh same look as the last but one change I feel it relates to the last but one change with what I felt was bad oil. that came out a nasy shade of brown and was thrown away because the engine was rattlieng as well, Replaced with Castrol, Edge it seemed fine for a while but was again really vile today. I sent a pint of Castrol though with the bung out and that too came out an awful rusty looking mess. Now filled with Quantum Premium Plus it is running much, much more smoothly. The Quantum is clearly thicker and more viscous to the eye. At least it went well not a drop spilled with my new technique. It had only dome 2500 miles simce the last change a year ago but got the works, with new filters and plugs. For good measure I cleaned the throttle body and MAP which was rather oily looking. Plugs looked fine and air filter was only mildly dirty. Pollen filter to follwo as I did Peanuts pollen today. In spite of being dealer serviced, exactly as I suspected this filter had clearly never ever been changed I reckon 70% blocked and black as soot with insects, leaves and rubbish more or less making it solid! I have this job sorted now. The only issue is making note of which way round the cover goes back.... I have the steering locked in the nearly straight ahead position. Shift the column shaft up, and out of the way and its a doddle lying across the front seats. What was a real pain the first time is now a 10 minute job (apart from the hour looking for my 5mm hex
screwdriver bit which stayed on the last bolt totally hidden from view, trying to locate it) Next time we pay for this I will check. Im doing Rubys tomorrow or in the next few dats and I shall date and sign it! The next **** taking garage will end up in court. Doing the service I now have a routine which seems to work.
Loose the air intake trumpet
Loose the air box and catch can hoses.
Unbolt the coil pack
Remove the dip stick and dipstick tube
Disconnect the VVT solenoid wire, the coil pack wire and the MAP wires
Remove the coil pack
and access to the plugs is simplicity\
Air filter is simple and throttle body and map easy to get to as well.
I worked out how to use my drainer can and a plank so its secure in position and allows access to the drain plug yipee. It actually took as long to open and close up the pit , as to do the car. At least it sounds great now, at least for a while. That oil clearly suits the Panda. Total cost £75.
Daylight stopped play so the new slave cylinder will have to be done another day.
New discs and pads expected later in the week. A set of Ferodo coated discs and Ferodo genuine pads (as Per Fiat OEM) £75 from the local HGV Ferodo specialist reliner). She will be good for at least couple of years with luck.
