Hey,
Ive just brought a stereo and ive took out the old standard stereo and plugged the iso connector in and there is no power going to the headset, ive been told something about a remote cable? could someone help? Any more info just ask and ill try and help. Many Thanks

Benvo

check the fuse in the headunit,if everything is connected properly?
your "remote cable" is what you use to power an amp so it switches of when you turn the haed unit off

The fuse is intactand the iso connecter is connected fine, i aint got an amp installed atm so that wouldnt be it, but i was told it needs one from the engine :S. Thanks for reply.

go to the dreaded halfords and get yourself a vauxhall iso adapter, PC2-05-4 off the top of my head, £13.99.

which headunit did you go for in the end?

Well i saw one for sale on here, jvc, exactly the same as my old one, but my old one was fitted by halfords so duno how to get it to work now. Urm i went to halfords ealier cos have a few mates who work there and they looked at it and used a iso connector thing to buy is 29.99 and that wouldnt work, so is that the wrong one?

my bad its PC2-04-4.

i had it fitted so i know what im on about (y)

So if i get the vauxhall iso adapter PC2-04-4 adapter all i need to do is plug it in and should work straight away?

Benvo

ive only had this problem once and it was cos i blew a fuse, i didnt know which it was i replaced the head unit fuse and replaced the head unit "feed" fuse.its where all the other fuses are in cabin on drivers side but i had to uprate this fuse later on cos it kept blowing,a 3amp fuse for a 4x45w head unit with 6x9 and 5" components dont last long

I got that adapter, there is now power running to it, but there it will only power up when press eject or display otherwise turns off, does it have a code or seomthing i got to do?

Benvo

lol, those halfords people dont know much do they, lol
if you come 2 me ill do it for free :p
tho that would prob be quite a trip considering im in ireland

o and the pc2-05-4 is the bmw loom, pc2-04-4 will do it but there isnt a need
really simple and usually cheap soloution
if youve got a multimeter your sorted, the stilos dont have an ignition feed therefore the radio wont power
on the harness of your stereo there should be a red and yellow wire with bullet connectors in the middle of them, the red usually has another connector coming from it that isnt connected to anything, connect the yellow one coming from the stereo to it, thats it on a permanent live and will work
if you want an ignition feed so the stereo will switch on and off with your key, you have to get a switched feed from the fusebox or any electrical item that switches on with the key, easy one is the cigarette lighter and wire it into the yellow wire
sorted:D
o and aftermarket units dont have codes when they come out of the box, you can make most of them as an option after
tho generally if you dont put the code in it wont let you do anything!

go 2 your mates in halfords and tell them to plug the unit into the audio wall, theres a square that can be pulled back to reveal ISO plugs and test the unit, that sounds more like a unit fault, o and make sure it is the correctly rated fuse in your fusebox and on the back of the unit

Re: Stereo problem... A SOLUTION?

I didn't want to create a new topic for this but i found another ACC feed that allows the stereo to turn off with the key.

If anyone can identify what feed i used, that would be helpful! Just to know lol.

Here's a pic:

Image027-1.jpg

Its the TURQUIOSE wire in the middle. Connect the power as normal, then the other to the turquiose one. Originally i had a pioneer so the power cable was RED and the acc was YELLOW. Stupid sony has to be backwards and they have it the other way around, wish i remembered that first before i wired it the normal way and put it all together only for the memory to lose every time i took the key out! Thankfully, i've rewired it and all is well.

That connection block was located just below the standard double cage. I removed it to connect my new double din Sony XAV W1 and am much impressed!

As said, if anyone knows what that wire is for, i'd like to know!

If this is helpful to anyone, please let me know lol.

Thanks.

i am having the same problem my car was fitted with a sony cd player but it stopped working there is power to the base unit but the head unit does not work, i have checked the fuses in the main panel next to the door in the engine bay and there ok i have tried a spare head unit for the same model and that does not work i have even tried a new jvc radio using the same connectors and that does not work, there is a single feed yellow wire connected to the radio as used by the installers , i assume that is a live feed i havent used a multi meter yet. i have looked at my stilo handbook and it says there are fuses in the boot lhd side but i cant find them mines a 1,8 5dr 2002 dynamic, any help would be appreciated

OK due to a few queries both here and the ICE section an pm's i decided to post the guide on how to get an ignition feed for an aftermarket stereo. i take no credit for this, red-devil from stilo sporting posted this on their website and i was directed to it from another member on here, problem for some people is that they cant view for one reason on another so here it is. good luck, any questions just ask (y)

Hi, if anyone is wondering how to get a switched live form there aftermarket stereo, i have the answer.

You take a feed off the yellow wire on the ignition barrel, and join that to one of the wires on the stereo wiring loom.

FIAT Stilo Aftermarket Stereo Switched Live

Take the plastic cover off the steering column

switchedlive1.jpg

On the left hand side of the steering column you will see 5 coloured wires on a white connector block type affair

1x Orange
2.x Blue
1x Red and
1x Black

It is the Orange wire we wish to use, if you have a spare piece of wire (standard speaker cable will do) push this in next to the Orange wire and using some insulation tape, secure the wire on to the orange wire so that it wont fall out.
switchedlive2.jpg

On the dash next to the steering column you will see a little plastic cubbyhole, this just pulls out (with a little effort), then you can push this wire behind the hole in the dash you just created and then up through into the stereo compartment

switchedlive3.jpg

Once there you connect the wire to the back of the ISO lead.

switchedlive5.jpg

1xYellow
1xBlack
1xRed and
1xBlue

Push the wire next to the Red wire on the ISO lead and secure in to place using some more insulation tape, plug it all back in you should have a switched live.

On with ignition and Off with ignition

Hope this helps

(please note this was for a SONY headunit)

only thing i will add is get an inline fuse or something like that, they cost very little and it means everything in the car will be fused reducing risk of accidents

someone did a random ignition feed for me with a red cale being taped to a blue one under the ignition barrel then going up through to the car loom, then on the stereo loom they cut the yellow one and added a bit of yellow to the red cable then had the red cable from the ignition going onto that which i assumed is what powered the stereo only when the engine is on?

i asked jonny this but has anyone else got the ignition feed so that the stereo can turn on on the first click or 2nd click as mine would only work with the engineon which was annoying and not wha i wanted :(

i got a new stereo today and cant get it to work at all - i jus want it normal again but theres no yellow wire from the cars loom, is this the problem?

HELP!!

If you're talking about the original unit then you can always just turn it on without the ignition.

If you forget to turn if off then it turns itself off after 20 minutes.

did you not get my pm dude?

the stilo doesnt have a 1 or 2 clicks on the key. this problem lies with the ignition barell of the stilo. its just an all on or all off option. some other cars have intermediate stages where they switch on some electronics but keep all engine related electrics off. this just isnt the case in the stilo

the stilo doesnt have an ignition feed which is that yellow wire. whoever done that for you has created an ignition feed, if one did come from the car to the stereo loom it would do the exact same as this. its just a switched 12V feed. if you turn the key all electrics will switch on including this switched feed, this is what signals the stereo to switch on, this works as long as the key is turned, not necessarily if the engines on. you dont have to do that final push to turn engine on if thats what your looking for, just keep the electrics working

but thats what i mean when i turn the key half way all the dash lights come on the headunit would power for a second then go off, when i put the engine on it would come on, thats not right surely, an ignition feed shouldnt need the engine on?

anyway i dont want it anymore if its gonna be like that! my new headunit doesnt work cos of that wiring :(

no thats defnitly not right. it should work with all of the lights on the dash. make sure he has connected it to the right wire. theres a guide in here which i copied from performance stilo for the ease of users on here. check it out and check your system. its what ive done and mine works with the first turn of the key and stays on
