Can anyone please identify this cable?
My car is a Mk2 (2000) 1.2 16v HLX and I had hoped that it was for the cam (phase) sensor, but it's coming from the wiring loom that runs between the headlights.

Despite changing the plugs, leads and coil pack, the car exhibits symptoms similar to a phase sensor problem ie. lumpy acceleration through the gears, so bad at times that I've actually stalled it once or twice when pulling away!
I believe the timing is just about right and it cruises very nicely but my wife's Mk1 60S feels nippier up to about 50mph.

The engine is a replacement unit and has the cam sensor acting just as a plug (cable cut off) and my local Fiat dealer does not have that part listed for my car.
I assume therefore that the car does not have the necessary connector/ECU to run the sensor.
So is this stray lead for auxiliary lights, bonnet sensor or extra rad fan perhaps?

Cheers

I have this 'spare wire' in my car, I also have another coming from the windscreen motor area - I know one of them is to do with air con (my car doesn't have), but I can't exactly remember what this certain one is for...

All I know is it is not essential to the running of the car - it is just there for ease of assembly on the production line,

I'm sure someone will come along and tell you exactly what it was originally intended to do

:)

Hi,

That one in the pic is for the bonnet sensor/ switch if you have the oem alarm fitted.

The one by the windscreen wiper motor is for the alarm siren.

Ah, thought it might be for a bonnet sensor.

Pity I can't use a cam sensor, I'll have to get the car checked out because the hesitant acceleration is just horrible.

Thanks for the replies folks (y)

common on HGT's

Its when Fiat run out of a loom for a Car on the run - so instead they use a suitable alternative

Like me - i've got an aircon wiring loom in my engine bay - but not anywhere else

If this is a replacement engine..and the phase sensor is present with the wire-cut
It will be a later engine..

The original engine most probs didn't have one.

Engine management light will be on ...otherwise.
Code read if it is..

Do a 'throttle-relearn;)

Yes, I think a throttle re-learn is on the cards because it's not like a misfire (there's no coughing and spluttering), or an injector problem where the revs would drop.
It's more like a rev limiter kicking in momentarily as if to say "that's it, that's all you're getting.......okay, now you can have some more" - very frustrating!

Hold the 'revs at 2k for 3 seconds
Then let the revs..fall
Repeat 3 times'

See if it makes a difference.

If not then 'I wouid take a look at the 'timing.
Perhaps a new belt got fitted before they put engine in..

Well it certainly feels a little more responsive now but tomorrow will be a real test.
Might have to try again because I had some trouble maintaining a steady 2000rpm.

Thanks again, will let you know how she runs tomorrow.

Is it clean - as in the throttle body flap and the idle valve section?

If there not, it'll cause alsorts of rough running

Also isn't there an ignition based one - where it resets with been sat on ignition for like 30seconds with no driver input?
Ie just turn key on and wait?

WOW, what a difference!

The throttle re-learn seems to have done the trick, far smoother and more responsive - feels like a couple more horses have been released from the paddock!

Will have a go at cleaning around the throttle body as well, as suggested.

Many thanks for your help :worship:
