Is the lower rear gearbox mount (next to the gear linkage rods) a proper bolt thro mount like the engine mounts, or is it more of a floating bump stop type. There seems a lot of movement on mine and wonder if its the cause of my 'noise' from the osf area when i go over steep speed ramps
(at slow speed).
Its not a metalic clunk, more of a catching sound on the suspension rebound stroke. Cant find anything if i bounce up and down on the osf corner when parked up and all joints seem ok.
Also should there be an exhaust braket of some kind mounted just after the twin pipe section and near to this gbox mount ??
Fire engine 999cc by the way.
Many thanks

I've just chenged the engine mounts on mine so hope this helps.

Ok looking at it from the top there is a circular plate with a bolt, to the front and back are 2 more bolts on the oval plate below the circular one.

The engine mount intself is a circular plate, then a rubber bit, then an oval plate then another rubber bit.

The bolt in the middle goes right through all that lot and bolts it to a mounting on the inner wing.
The 2 bolts on the oval plate bolt to a mounting on the gearbox.

If in doubt just change the mounting, its only about a tenner and a 5 min job to replace.

The mounting on the engine side is exactly the same. I did both in under half an hour. Just make sure you have a jack under the engine or gearbox to take the weight when you remove the mounting.

Hope that helps

Darren

Thanks Darren but i think you are refering to the 2 engine mounts, 1 either side.. I am looking at the lower gearbox mount fitted to the lower rear part of the transmission, near the exhaust & gear linkage rods..
Thanks again
Paul

Oh bugger aye. I read gear linkage and convertyed that to clutch cable. bugger.

I'm off home now and I'll see whats in the workshop manual and see if I can put any pictures up for you.

Sorry for the file size, I've used Photobucket to get them as big as I can so you can see the detail.

From memory the eghaust should have a bracket between the twin piped that holds that front section to the manifold in place but that cant be seen from these pics.

Yes there is an exhaust bracket between the twin pipes just ahead of where they join into 1, metal plate across the bottom and a single 13mm nut through into a plate more or less under the starter motor.
I say metal plate, mine was more of a rusty lump. Rather ad hoc metal plate back in place now:eek:

If you get under the car whilst its on a set of drive-on ramps you can see the lower gearbox mount.

Using 2 13mm spanners you should be able to tighten it up a little.

One spanner goes inside a little slot onto the bolt and the other is the one you can see from underneath.

My mount had pretty much worked itself too. Makes a lot of noise!

Thanks will try that but think the rubber has come away from the metal base/bolt ??

Pleased it helped!!

I cant see it being that hard to change, I'm under mine now looking at the front running gear and it looks ok to get too and replace.

Hard bit will finding a place that has the mounting in stock

Be careful where you post these images as they're subject to copy right by Fiat!

I've posted similar material in a private gallery on here, and just pass the folders access rights to those on here that I trust to prevent being done for any infringment of copy right ;)
