Folks, drove car home this morning and experienced very sluggish pick up until the revs exceeded about 1500 rpm. This was in all gears. I found that pick up seemed OK with the vehicle stationary and in neutral, the problem seems to occur when in gear and driving.

I've tried turning off and then leaving ignition on to clear ecu (may not have done this for long enough though) and the problem has occurred after car was sat outside in the heavy rain all night.

Answers on a post card please........

could also be boost sensor or vacuum tube has a leak. Might also be MAP sensor although these are fairly rare.

EGR or boost sensor problems should throw up a fault, whereas MAF doesn't normally.
However, MAF is easily eliminated by disconnecting it and seeing if the problem disappears.

MAF sensor (again). Disconnected it and it runs fine. I suspected as much, however the issue this time was much more pronounced than when it happened a couple of years ago, when I was only getting a flat spot, as opposed to it not really wanting to go at all.

Last time I left it disconnected for a few days and it seemed to totally cure the problem, guessing that this resets the sensor........?

Des anyone know if it would be detrimental to run the car with the MAF sensor disconnected on a long term basis, typically my sensor is the expensive one!

Have you tried cleaning it? The best way I've found is to put it in a plastic bag (make sure there's no holes in it!), pour in a little isopropyl alcohol or meths, twist the bag shut and give it a damn good shake for a few minutes. This avoids any solid-object contact with the very delicate sensor wire that's inside.

It helps if you clean off the outside of the MAF before you do this or you can end up with more dirt inside than when you started.
