Looking at that list I reckon there's a good many committing insurance fraud - I wonder how many declared those pinstripes they bought or those little stickers or arbarth badges? Also love to know how many of the "what's the biggest size wheel" brigade told their insurer? and what about those who buy a set of steelies just so they can fit winter tyres?
Heck, "roof rack" !!! WTF?

And as if a sports steering wheel will make a difference?
Or even...

I wonder if he declared those mods :D

go compare's quote generator. (I noticed a similar one on another site)
I guess they must have got their info off each insurance site they use - I presume this list covers all the items asked for by every insurer they use (& presumably some insurers won't ask for all those items).
My lad thought it interesting that his ICE wouldn't need to be mentioned. On my docs it says I have an automatic £250 max cover for ICE so presumably if you fit loads of additional components over and above the £250 value then you would still need to mention in order to have them covered.

It seems to me that some of those declarations are just petty.
"side stripes" - yeah, I bought a 5mm wide stripe from halfords - Oh sorry sir, but you never told us about that therefore your claim can not be validated.
We notice you have an abarth badge on your car sir - yes, and - but the car isn't actually an abarth model is it sir? - no, but your point is... - ah well, you didn't declare it and by putting that badge on the car, you were making it more tempting to the idiots who wouldn't know that it's not an abarth model...
We note from the photos at the scene that your car has a roof rack - yes, I was on holiday & used the rack to transport all the extra luggage - but you didn't declare it - didn't know I had to - ignorance of the rules is no excuse sir, you signed to say you have read out Ts & Cs & it was mentioned in there...

I think it's a case of declare everything because even though a lot of those 'mods' couldn't possibly add to your premiums (but we all know they will!) it will give the insurer a loophole to not paying out.

this just proves that there out to gain money really doesn't it.

i understand they have to make money but there is a limit

Most of those are probably not loaded for though.. I don not really see an issue here, insurers want to know about any changes made to the vehicle from when it left the factory so they know exactly what they are insuring, if your car is modified then there are many modification friendly insurers who will cater for you, most will not charge for cosmetic changes.

Absolutely, declare all changes and let your insurer do the rest. If you are planning mid policy modifications then enquire whether this will be catered for and estimated costs. I see people moaning at insurers all the time when they go to do a mid-policy modification are are given a ridiculous price or are told 'no'. I'd put the blame on the customer for not checking whether these changes are catered for BEFORE their policy was incepted.

TBH if you're installing bull bars on your car you deserve to be priced out!

And if you drive any vehicle with a great big ornament on the bonnet - Merc, jag, Rolls etc
Over the years, cars for your average Joe have been made more pedestrian friendly and yet many of the more expensive marques have been allowed to keep their lethal ornaments!

Neither jag or merc have bonnet mounted ornaments on any of their new cars

I seem to remember something about The spirit of ecstasy on the rolls is lowered into the grill in the event of an accident in the same way an airbag deploys

Having owned big 4x4s you need bull bars to protect against all the idiot reps who constantly try to impale them self on your front bumper at every round about and junction in the false belief that a big 4x4 can't do more than 20mph

Anyway about the only mod I have on both cars is a Yankee candle air freshener and that's not in the list so hopefully I'm safe

car does not have "that standard car smell"
insurance is void.

i know for my panda i am just taking off all the things. when i get a job ill sick all the extras on and update my insurance.
all the extras need painting/repairing anyway.

Like buses, don't see one for ages then three come along at once.
Newest I saw today was on a 59 plate - and that had the standard merc ornament sticking up.
After you made that comment I tried to think if I'd seen a merc without & sure I may have seen one with just a stickon badge.

Hmmm I really should have done a bit more (or even some would have helped) research on this, the Mercedes uk website home pages shows an E-Class with the Three pointed star poking out of the bonnet.

That said ever since the 80s (and probably before) the merc ornament is not held in place with anything more than friction and a spring so in an accident fold flat against the bonnet has reminded me Maybach have their own bonnet trophy which uses the Sam arrangement at the merc

As I said though, I'm sure I've seen (at least one) with a round badge stuck on the front edge of the bonnet.
Mind you, today I also spotted a cherokee jeep with horses mounted on each wing, about halfway along.
Now obviously they are retro fit - I wonder if his insurance know? I also wonder how it passes the MOT each year - not very pedestrian friendly!
