When i pull up to a junction with the fan on i get fumes inside the car. Is my cat playing up or is something loose. Not been to dealer as it is a sixty mile round trip hope someone has an idea

T's bang on as usual. This happened to my GP and fixed two weeks ago by the Fiat Ayr guys.

Smell of Petrol when pulling off

strange one

i have a 1.4 8v dynamic sport GP its done about 6k miles, problem im having is that there is a kinda strong smell of petrol in the cabin when pulling away but only when the heaters are on

iv scanned through the forum seems could be breather pipe??

what does it looks like/where is it..... easy fix? serious problem??

or could it be as simple as the fuel im using, i did fill up at an esso garage just before it started? conincedence?

thanks

Re: Smell of Petrol when pulling off

Its a rubber hose that's attached to the airbox (I think).
You can do a temp repair with some tape but it will need replaced if split.

I'd suggest you put the heater on recirculate and take a trip to the dealer.

Noticed this today,my breather pipe has split, anyone know if this is a warranty issue?

T is this the pipe that pushes on at the back of the air box? I'll go get a picture if its the same on the 1.2 one they are all asking about, just you say it sprays all over the manifold which is at the front??

Its the thicker pipe (metal clips each end) about 2" diameter (thats about 6cm for anyone born after 1980 ish) that goes from the left side of the rocker cover to the airbox (its under the airbox) and not the thin pipe at back of airbox next to throttle body.

Right then

To Preserve T's sanity

if yo have a smell of fumes been drawn into your car..

locate this pipe

attachment.php

it runs from the left hand side near the oil filler cap and runs under the air box (which is secured by 2x 10mm headed bolts and the air intake lead pipe is held in a rubber grommet and just pulls out ( a drop of washing up liquid makes it easyer)

once the three points have been undone lift the air box upwards (it is pushed onto the throttle body )

take care as the hose which your looking to check is still attached ..

if its found to be leaking clean the hose with soap and water on a cloth and bind well in Duct tape (there is a potential risk that oil can leak from this and catch fire on the exhaust pipe where it runs under the engine to the back of the car) then see your dealer about getting a new one....

(happy now T ;) )

Thanks for reply,i have already taped up pipe before posting query, reason for asking is was under the impression that this sort of issue would be covered by warranty(18 months still to go)but when i contacted local dealer i was told no....anybody had this done as warrantyclaim?...thanks

Mine's was replaced under warranty at Fiat Ayr. My GP has 16 months warranty left. Was given a diagnosis over the phone with the service manager and confirmed in workshop.(y)
