i have just brought a new fiat coupe 2.0 16v because i like them so much as i smashed my last one up but the new one has got a problem when i am driving the engine cuts out for no reason i have tried putting fuel system cleaner in but thinking about it the car runs fine no hesitation or judders just cuts out could this be the crank sensor (rpm sensor) TDC sensor are these all the same thing !!!!! also i have noticed that there is a new coil pack on the car and written on it is fiat coupe le i thought this was a turbo version would that possibly be the problem i hate intermittent faults !!!!!!!!!!!!!! also no warning light come up on the dash when it cuts out but they all do work can somebody please please help

I once had similair problem on 16v coupe; check your battery leads and terminals for breaks, the circuit can make and brake intermitantly.

i have now brought a crank sensor can anyone tell me how hard or easy it is any pictures possibly many thanks

ok just put on my new sensor and the same thing happens when i boot it it just dies and takes a min or 2 to start again checked the battery terminals they were a bit loose now tightened any other idears people many thanks for all your help so far the sensor was well easy to replace

no i have not it doesnt seem to shudder or anything just dies as if the kys were taken out!!!!??????? thanks again everyone for your input

right well the battery terminal and the alternator terminals were both reall loose i thought this might be it but now it revs irratic up down then stalls again and cannot start for a min or two ????!!!!! this is really starting to frustrate me help please

also another couple of things to mention the electrical plug which goes into the distributor when i unplug it it makes no difference same as the air flow one i am sure my old one cut out when you unplugged it any idears

it looks like its got a new alternator on it i say this because its very clean compared tho the rest of the car does the altenator have a charging relay if so where ? as for reving the car stationary it doesnt seem to cut out but when i do boot the car i cuts out after i have booted it and plays up for the next couple of time i drive the car afterwards i thought maybe its fuel starvation maybe a fuel pressure regulator ,fuel pump or even maybe a fuel filter any suggestion cheers i checked the plugs today i must say they looked very old and shagged so changed these also it looks like the guy i brought the car of sold it because of this problem because sparkplug leads new coil new alternator new distributor cap and rotor arm

found out the problem today the cam belt went i think it was the tentioners dammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm any one know if this is fatal on 2.0 16v engines i know some cars are ok if the belt snaps also any idear on prices to fix it so i dont get ripped of thanks

Damn the 20 16v engine bends valves, how many will depend on what rpm it went at. My stilo abarth cam belt went on idle and only bent 1 valve, needed a head skim also. If it went at high rpm id change the big end shells also.

i have repaired the car now all 16 valves bent but the bottom end was ok luckily head was ok too but the bloody thing still cuts out i am at my wits end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
