Technical Gasket between turbine and down pipe

As I build up iveco F1CE engine, I realized that maintenance manual doesn’t show any gasket between turbine and downpipe as shown in the attached photo. I checked the picture from dismantling and seems like I tin really doesn’t have it.
However I still can’t believe if it really doesn’t need it. Does anyone know what’s the mechanism on this??
If it doesn’t need it, any tips to avoid the exhaust gas from leaking??

Under those circumstances, as long as both surfaces are perfectly flat it should not be a problem, however for peace of mind and to take up any tiny imperfections I sometimes rub a smear of the liquid type exhaust sealant across the surfaces and then tighten securely.
